Chocolate Love

I went to see Charlie and the Chocolate Factory over the weekend and really enjoyed it. So did the theater full of children I saw it with. Since the original movie is one of my all time favorites, I wasn't holding out much hope that I'd like the remake. And there were things that I thought were much better in the original: like the songs the Oompa Loompa's sing, and Charlie's grandpa Joe. But, overall, I give it an 8 out of 10. Johnny Depp sure has come a long way since his 21 Jump Street Days hasn't he? His portrayal of Willie Wonka is much more over the top than Gene Wilder's, especially that pale skin and those creepy teeth, though both actors bring something unique to the role.  Hollywood seems to be out doing themselves with the remakes lately.  With a new Willie Wonka on the big screen, can a new Chitty Chitty Bang Bang be too far behind?

I meant to pick up my copy of the new Harry Potter over the weekend but never made it to the bookstore.  Not that Jk Rowling needs my chump change to line her already stuffed pockets. I'm not hating on the woman, I actually admire the hell out of her, but her success is enough to make a writer like me, who'd like to earn a living writing full-time, turn every shade of green. I think I've already figured out who the major character is that dies in the end of book six.  We'll see.

Here is yet another reason to pay your library fines.
