In The Blink of an Eye

I wondered how long it would take for the story of LaToyia Figueroa, the pregnant, 24 year-old single mother who went missing two weeks ago in Philly, to disappear from the national news. But, apparently, since I haven't seen any mentions in the news lately, the answer is: In the blink of an eye.  The fact that the story didn't even become national news until Ms. Figueroa had been missing for nine days, didn't exactly make me hold out much hope that her disappearence would get much coverage on a national level.  I'm wondering just why the story got the little bit of attention that it did get. Was it to appease the black community or because the media thought is was truly newsworthy? I think I know the answer to that one.

There's an interesting article in the lastest Newsweek about why former Cosby kid and Disney Channel star Raven Symone hasn't achieved the level of celebrityhood that Lindsay Lohan has. But, since Lindsay Lohan seems to get attention for all the wrong reasons, I'm wondering if this is such a bad thing.

Oprah must have forgotten all about how movie goers just weren't feeling her adaptation of Toni Morrison's novel Beloved because now she's planning to adapt Morrison's novel Paradise.
