Katrina Katrina!

I've spent the last several days on a roller coaster of emotions. Heartbreak and anger being the two most prominent. I spent most of my long weekend avoiding the news altogether. There were only so many images of the devastation left behind by Katrina that I could bare to watch. I also spend much of my time being incredibly grateful for what I have and contemplating how it can all be taken away  at a moments notice.  One of the things that struck me listening to interviews with the survivors of the hurricane and flooding is how many people stated that they never thought anything like this could ever happen to them, never thought they'd be homeless. Does anyone ever think about that?  What is even more frightening is that there is probably more of the same on  the way.

Here are some links to info on how to help:

Red Cross

Bookseller Relief Fund

Samaritan's Purse

ASPCA

LLA Disaster Relief Fund

NAACP

Angela,,
Great post. Describes many of my own feelings.

My emotions have been all over the place, too. And I think it has a lot to do with the constant intake of television news that I've allowed myself to have. I may turn the television off for a moment, just like you did. The only thing that has given me any peace of mind is donating to help these victims.

This whole situation has made me incredibly thankful for all that I have...

Hi Angela,

I don't have cable, but I have been watching the updates on the net. I also am in turmoil about this. It's sad, I am mad, I am sad, I am frustrated, so many emotions are going through our minds.

I am in Alabama and I felt some of Katrina's wrath. I am very grateful that it wasn't worse. I remember staying up all night listening to the trees snap in half, and hearing winds like trains and was scared out of my mind. I cannot imagine what those in Mississippi and Louisiana had to deal with.
